Samsung (re) launches the smartphone at a softer price

In South Korea, Samsung makes the curious decision to give its Galaxy S20 FE a second life. It returns in 2020 with the same technical data sheet and a lower price.

Samsung kicked off its year with the launch of the Galaxy S21 FE. A highly anticipated smartphone that belatedly took over from the Galaxy S20 FE, bringing some new features like the Snapdragon 888. We thought then that the retirement hour had come for the Galaxy S20 FE; it was without counting on Samsung which decided to give it a second youth.

In South Korea, two operators are now offering to equip themselves with the Galaxy S20 FE 2022. A version that has an air of deja vu since it is the same model as that launched in October 2020. We find a Snapdragon 865 compatible 5G, flanked by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage with microSD. The device still has a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen in Full HD+, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The 4,500 mAh battery is still there, compatible with 25 W charging, wireless at 15 W and reverse charging at 4.5 W.

The photo part does not evolve either on this model which has three sensors. An always correct set that includes a main camera and an ultra wide-angle of 12 megapixels each; as well as an 8-megapixel telephoto lens. For selfies, the Galaxy S20 FE 2022 relies on its 32-megapixel front camera.

You guessed it, nothing has changed on this model which even continues to ship Android 10. Remember that it is possible to update the device to Android 12 with the One UI 4.1 overlay.

What is the difference between the Galaxy S20 FE and the Galaxy S20 FE 2022?

The difference between the two versions lies in the price of the device. This re-release costs 699,600 won, which is around 200,000 won less than the version launched in 2020. This equates to around 530 euros for this 5G model.

The Galaxy S20 FE 2022 is also offered without headphones, but the operators compensate for their absence. The South Korean firm is also limited to three colors (white, lavender and blue), against six colors for the basic variant.

Why is Samsung relaunching this smartphone?

Samsung’s strategy is surprising, especially since the manufacturer is already marketing the Galaxy S21 FE. We can think that a reissue is an opportunity for the brand to sell its stocks or to increase the volume of its sales. With this method, Samsung is also targeting a young audience who might be tempted by the Galaxy S experience at a lower price. For now, the Galaxy S20 FE 2022 is only available in South Korea.

In France, the brand currently prefers to bet on the recent Galaxy S21 FE or its Galaxy S22 range. The latter includes the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, as well as the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
