Samsung goes into overdrive to counter Xiaomi

Samsung wants to keep its crown in smartphones and multiplies the references. The brand announces the Galaxy M53 5G, an affordable device with a 120Hz AMOLED screen and a 108MP sensor.

Samsung has just presented the Galaxy M53 5G, its new affordable smartphone. To compete with Chinese brands like Xiaomi, the market leader no longer hesitates to multiply the models in its Galaxy A and Galaxy M ranges. After the Galaxy A33 5G, A53 5G (read our test) or the A73 5G, Samsung is points to an even more accessible series to counter the Redmi Note 11 range.

We have now become accustomed to seeing “big” figures appear on the technical sheets of affordable devices. The new Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is no exception to the rule and has a 6.7-inch screen displaying in Full HD+. This Super AMOLED Plus panel offers a refresh rate of 120 Hz, with a punch located in the center of the screen. A classic (Infinity-O) and modern approach that allows a 32-megapixel front camera to be housed at the top of the screen. Under the hood, the Galaxy M53 5G probably features a MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC engraved in 6 nm and flanked by 6 GB of RAM.

This chip is close to Samsung’s Exynos 1280 or Quamcomm Snapdragon 765G in terms of power. The term “probably” is used because Samsung usually does not give the reference of the chipset that equips its smartphones. Internal storage reaches 128 GB and the device has a microSD card slot, up to 1 TB. , the power adapter is not included with the smartphone.

The photo part is not left out with the presence of a quadruple camera on the back of the Galaxy M53. The smartphone mainly relies on its main sensor of 108 megapixels opening at f / 1.8, supported by an ultra wide-angle of 8 megapixels. Two other 2-megapixel sensors, dedicated to macro and depth management, are present. Finally, this 5G device offers Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 and runs Android 12 with the One UI 4.1 interface.

Price and availability? Still a little patience

For the time being, Samsung does not mention the price and the date of availability of its smartphone. Expected on the Indian market, the Galaxy M53 5G should soon land in Europe. Three colors are expected: brown, blue and green. With this model, Samsung confirms its desire to attack Xiaomi on all fronts. For this, the South Korean firm is inspired by its A range for its M series.

It can also be compared to the Galaxy A73 5G recently unveiled by the manufacturer. The Galaxy M53 5G nevertheless ignores certain technologies or functions, such as optical image stabilization (OIS). However, it is possible to film up to 4K at 30 fps.
