Prince of Persia remake changes developers (but it’s for a good cause)

The chaotic development of the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is ongoing, and the game has a new developer.

Bye bye Bombay, see you more Pune and hello Montreal! The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time change of developer after a chaotic start to development.

Initially scheduled for release in January 2021, the game was pushed back to March of the same year, before being pushed back again for release in 2022. This time no longer a question of giving a release date, the game is resuming development at another studio and will be released”when it’s ready”.

The game had started its creative process in the two Indian studios of Ubisoft, where it seems to have encountered some problems during this journey. The development of the game will now follow its course within the studios of Ubisoft Montreal, in the cold of Canada and far from the heat of India.

Back to origins

Ubisoft announced this decision via Twitter, reassuring players, and thanking the Bombay and Pune studio teams. May fans rest easy, the new studio in charge of the game turns out to be the one who was at the very origin of the Sands of Time trilogy in 2003 :

Development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy. This decision is an important step and the Montreal team, which will continue the work done by the Ubisoft Bombay and Pune teams, will now need time to focus on the scope of the game in order to bring you the best experience for this remake of a cult game, when it’s ready.

During the last postponement, Ubisoft assured that the Bombay and Pune studio teams were preparing “a remake that brings renewal while remaining faithful to the original”. Now that this one is in the hands of its original studio, we can be sure that the wishes of the Indian teams will be respected.

See you in the more or less near future to relive the epic adventures of the Prince of Persia in a new light after almost 10 years since the original title.
