The Swytch conversion kit has the advantage of being universal: it can be installed on any traditional bicycle. It consists of a front wheel, which therefore replaces that of the bicycle, a sensor to be installed on the crankset and a removable battery. The manufacturer promises that anyone can install the equipment without extensive DIY knowledge.
Minimal DIY
The wheel incorporates the motor with a torque of 40 Nm, which can assist an adult to climb a 30% inclined slope without difficulty. Its top speed is up to 32 km/h, but it is limited to 25 km/h where local laws require it. There are two battery models: the Eco Power Pack at 180 Wh (2,500 mAh) which provides a range of 35 km. The Pro Power Pack has a capacity of 250Wh (3,500 mAh) for a range of 50 km.
The lifespan of the batteries oscillates between 800 and 1,000 cycles (depending on the version chosen) before undergoing a reduction in their capacity. The full recharge varies between 2 and 4 hours. The particularity of the battery pack is that it is removable, and very easily. In fact, it is placed at the front, at the level of the handlebars, in a support designed for this purpose. The Pro model additionally includes an LED light with a brightness of 200 lumens.
You should know that the kit does not allow you to recharge the battery with the pedal. This allows the vehicle to be used as a standard bicycle when the battery is removed. The Swyft also adds a bit of weight to the bike: 1.5 kilos for the wheel and its motor, 2 kilos for the battery pack. Unfortunately, there are currently no prices announced.
